Mountain Road

I left who I was in them Blue Hills
Found myself heading out East
Along the way I got high every day and got seven or eight hours of sleep
Living is easy if you want to
Sure can be hard if you don’t
Walking through the parking lots lost in your thoughts now you’re standing at the No Frills alone
All of the faces amaze us
At least til you get em up close
The closer you get to the best you had yet, the harder it is to know
I met myself in a friend’s basement
Stopped drinking beer for a while
Been wearing the same thing for coming a year, but I’m thinking of changing my style
(changing my style)
Late last week I was driving
Down Mountain Road off Highway 5
Don’t got no AC so the windows were wide and the tape deck was playing Charlie Pride
Nothing don’t come out of nothing
But somehow I came out to you
I left who I was in the back of your car, but I know that our love was true
Our love was true
Yes I do

Aging Mr. Riley
03:19
|

Aging Mr. Riley, laying on the sofa bed
Nursing a headache, wishing that he were dead
Or better yet
Sitting in the stands, watching all the horses race
Grand in his hand, a million more in the bank
He's ordering a drink
He watches the race with a smile on his face
He knows what's going down on the ground
Well a win is a win even if it's a sin
He takes his winnings down to the underground
Riley's pushing sixty, always pushing me around
We're fixing races within a hundred miles of town
We were winning but he's putting me down
So I hatched myself a plan, to steal all Riley's money
Leave him in a ditch, fly off somewhere sunny and warm
Well I wish I was warned
I shot for his heart but I hit him in the shoulder
He shot back and he shot a little closer
(oh yeah he hit the mark)
He left me die and flew to Shanghai
Took my winnings down to the underground
Well the hurt done come this time for real
Now I'm crying like a baby and dying like a heel
When the cops come found me laying on the ground
ol' Mr. Riley was never found
If I make it through the pearly gates
I hope heaven has got a horse race

Whatever Got Lost
03:31
|
|||
Are you swimming in the dark my friend
Looks like you're lost again
Wandering and wondering
Whose fault it is
I remember in days gone by
You'd sing and people cried
Do it again, don't turn off those house lights
I guess a year's come pass
Since I heard you sing like that
I want it back
Whatever got lost I want it back
I really hope he finds it
I really hope he does
I really hope he finds it
I really hope he does
I really hope he does
My girl with the auburn hair
I left you standing there
On the stairs
I told you that it's for the best
I was looking for myself I guess
You were looking a long white dress
And I wasn't there
I wish I was
But I wasn't there
I really hope she finds it
I really hope she does
I really hope she finds it
I really hope she does
I really hope she does
Smoking grass on the steps out back
Telling me about the dream you had
And a song you heard
But you can't remember how it went
I really hope they find it
Really hope he does
I really hope she finds it
I really hope she does
I really hope she does

Hard Headed
02:47
|

Every day it gets a little bit more clear
In the rearview, closer than it appears
I tried to write a song that feels sincere but oh
It gets so hard to make a point when you just don't care
It's hard to roll a joint already impaired
It's hard to be alone when two in the morning comes along
I thought I saw you smoking darts
Down at the high school
You know you broke your mama's heart
And you didn't even look that cool
But listen I get it, you're hard headed
Just like me
I wake up in the morning head full of songs
Try to write them down but then they're gone
Some songs are just dreams that go on too long but some are not
Even in my dreams I get lost in thought
Even when I see my best friend get shot
Even when he's bleeding out I just can't stop and oh my god
I thought I saw you drinking lean
Down at the Dairy Queen
You were your daddy's jelly bean
Now you're acting awful mean
But listen I get it, you're hard headed
Just like me
I thought I saw you acting hard
Down at the local bar
I was playing my guitar
When you took it a little too far
They threw you out on the curb
You cried and everyone heard
Skinned your knee and you tore your shirt
But only your pride got hurt
Listen I get it, you're hard headed,
Just like me!

Blue Hills

Out on the road, that's where I belong
Highway Ten's getting long
Dirt road junkies in their trucker caps
You don't get stopped by the cops when you look like that
The place you get born ain't always where you're coming from
It matters more what you intend to become
I'll hold your hand darling, either way
You don't gotta talk to no preachers, we got plenty to say
In the hills I grew up knowing you
I remember what you wore last June
I remember, it's the only thing I know to be true
Tugging on heartstrings plastic rings
I'd give anything to hear you sing
Or see you play in your high school band
I don't remember the name but you played Steely Dan
In the hills I grew up knowing you
I remember what you wore last June
In the hills I grew up loving you
I remember what you wore last June
I remember, it's the only thing I know to be true
The sky filled up with stars that night like people fill up bars
And the streets were bathed in neon lights from windows and yards
And I, just want to know where you are
The sky filled up with stars that night like people fill up bars
And the streets were bathed in neon lights from windows and yards
And I, just want to know where you are
The sky filled up with stars that night like people fill up bars
And the streets were bathed in neon lights from windows and yards
And I, just want to know where you are

Out On The Weekend
03:59
|
|||
In the kitchen they're drinking a lot
Kris and Dylan are singing a song
Somebody's friend is throwing up on the lawn
There's a couple new faces but we're getting a long
It's a good time, there's a long line at Times Change(d)
But we're getting in for free
Thanks to Jesse
And I bought a beer, four dollars fifty
I saw a band, that I've seen before
You took my hand and got me on the floor
It's a good time, I watched you do a line behind the bathroom door
Out on the weekend
With all of my friends
Going off the deep end
Like we won't see each other again
Picked you up in my old 95
You'd had too many but I'm good to drive
You said you missed me and I didn't cry
You tried to kiss me and I said goodbye
It's a good time, I dropped you off and went back to mine
In the garage, they're spinning some wax
Old country music helps me relax
So does a beer and we're throwing them back
Jen rolled a joint my god is it fat
It's a good time, I'm drinking coffee you're drinking wine
Out on the weekend
With all my friends
Going off the deep end
Getting the spins
Keeping the faith like
It's ours to defend
Like we won't see each other again
In the basement, I'm getting high
Trying to write something I can stand by
It's a good time, it's a long life and I'm living again
